This Sunday is National Lasagna Day! There are so many ways to make this delicious Italian dish, whether you prefer to prepare your lasagna with a variation of meats or a colorful array of vegetables. Celebrate the holiday at home, then visit Basta Pasta to try our famous lasagna recipe!
Ingredients
You cannot expect your final product to be delicious if you do not begin its assembly with the best ingredients. Many people use ground beef in their spaghetti sauce, but add in some pork and sausage to the mix to spice things up. If possible, use fresh mozzarella and make sure that all of the cheeses you include are made with whole milk. If you crave a creamier lasagna, consider layering your pasta with a bechamel sauce that you can either buy from the store or make by yourself if you are feeling ambitious.
Assembly
Once you have the perfect ingredients picked out for your lasagna, it is time to assemble! First, make sure you build your lasagna in a pan that is at least 3 inches deep. The deeper, the better. A deep pan will ensure that your lasagna does not spill out of the pan and onto the floor of your oven. Before you place the first layer of noodles down in the pan, spread a little of your sauce down first so your noodles do not stick to the bottom of the pan. Once you reach the top of the lasagna, make sure you cover the entirety of the top noodles with sauce so they do not dry out. Top it all off with some shredded cheese and you are ready to bake!
Bake
Once assembled, your lasagna is ready to cook. Start by covering the dish with foil and bake for about 45 minutes at around 375F. After 45 minutes, take the foil off the top and leave it in the oven, uncovered. This allows the top of the lasagna to crisp up, which adds great contrast to the melted layers underneath.
